Successful On-Farm and Online Auction Hosted at Cows.ie HQ with all 92 head of Fleckvieh Heifers Sold

Cows.ie their inaugural on farm sale of 100% imported Fleckvieh Breed Cattle within Ireland.

Available at the event were 92 exceptional in calf heifers which were carefully selected from the very best herds throughout Austria in association with Genetic Austria.

Ready to calf from November 2021 to March 2022, there were also a selection of maiden Heifers were selected to the same criteria.

Fleckvieh cattle originated in central Europe in the 1800’s when local stock was cross bred with Simmental cattle from Switzerland. The aim was to produce a breed with excellent muscling and good milk production.

Today, the dual purpose Fleckvieh is suitable for both meat and milk production and is firmly established on all continents and has become a very sought-after animal throughout Ireland and the UK. The Fleckvieh Cow is a hardy and adaptable breed that is able to thrive in different climates. They have the ability to reach outstanding milk and solids production levels.

The average production for the Fleckvieh breed now stands at around 6850 litres with protein at 3.43% and butterfat at 4.13%. Fertility is also extremely good. The calving interval stands at 380 days, so they are very suitable as a block spring calving herd. Females are noted to calve easily. They are renowned for their excellent beef production and the meat is well marbled and tender. The cull cow will average 400 kgs dead weight.
